Progetto MIUR-PRIN 2022 "OPENLIT"

Building an Open Access Lithotheque of Italian knappable rocks exploited during Prehistory – OPENLIT is a 2-year research project founded by the European Union-Next Generation EU through the PRIN 2022 call powered by MUR.

OPENLIT aims to build up the core of the first Italian open-access lithotheque showing the availability of knappable rocks used during Prehistory in some Italian key – territories. The open-access lithotheque will be based on a geodatabase and webGIS platform for outcrops mapping and geological samples’ location.

OPENLIT project will provide to the scientific community an innovative research tools and digital archives at national level to identify and localise knappable rocks used during Prehistory. The macroscopic, petrographic and compositional characteristics of geological samples will provide reference to compare archaeological assemblages from prehistoric sites from the Italian peninsula and neighbouring territories.
